Construction Process

We run a clear, milestone-driven construction process built for homeowners. You get a realistic schedule, transparent budgeting, and a clean, well-managed job site—plus weekly updates so you always know what’s happening next. Our goal is simple: deliver high-quality work with no surprises.

Licensed & Insured

CSLB Lic # 872035

We’re fully licensed and insured, which protects your home, your investment, and your project from unnecessary risk. Working with a licensed contractor also helps ensure code compliance, proper permits, and accountability if issues ever arise.

Design-Build Accountability

With Coast Builders Group, one team is responsible from plans to final walkthrough—so there’s no finger-pointing between designer and contractor. That means fewer surprises, faster decisions, and a smoother path from vision to completion.

Weekly Progress Updates

You’ll receive scheduled weekly updates so you always know what was completed, what’s coming next, and what decisions (if any) are needed from you. Consistent weekly communication reduces stress, prevents misunderstandings, and keeps projects moving.

Clean, Organized Job Sites

A clean job site protects your home and keeps the project running smoothly. We maintain organized staging, clear walk paths, and daily clean-up standards to reduce hazards and prevent damage during construction.

Our 7-Step Construction Process

You deserve a construction experience that feels organized, predictable, and transparent. Our process is designed to protect your budget, keep your schedule realistic, and deliver craftsmanship you can feel every day.

Step 1: Pre‑Construction & Site Mobilization

We start by organizing the job site, verifying the plan, and confirming logistics so your project begins smoothly. We establish site protection, material staging, and a clear schedule before work starts.

What you get: A confirmed start plan, site protection strategy, and a clear roadmap for the first phase.

Step 2: Foundation & Underground Systems

We complete excavation, grading, footings, underground utilities, and concrete work with inspections at the right milestones. This phase sets the structural baseline for everything that follows.

What you get: A solid foundation built to engineering requirements and ready for framing.

Step 3: Framing & Weather Protection

Your project takes shape fast here—walls, roof structure, and the exterior “shell” are built. We work to get the home dried‑in (weather protected) so interior trades can move forward without delays.

What you get: Visible progress and a weathertight structure that protects your investment.

Step 4: Rough Mechanical (Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC)

Before walls close, we install the “behind the scenes” systems that power your home. Inspections happen during this stage, which helps prevent future rework.

What you get: Clean, code‑compliant rough‑ins and a verified inspection checkpoint.

Step 5: Insulation, Drywall & Interior Build‑Out

We install insulation for comfort and efficiency, then drywall, texture, and interior surfaces. From here, your home starts to feel real—rooms take shape and finishes begin.

What you get: Smooth walls, better energy performance, and the start of interior transformation.

Step 6: Finish Install (Cabinets, Tile, Flooring, Fixtures)

This is where craftsmanship shows. We install the finishes you’ll see and use daily—tile, flooring, cabinetry, lighting, plumbing fixtures, paint touchups, and exterior finishes as needed.

What you get: A completed space that looks premium and functions beautifully.

Step 7: Final Inspections, Punch List & Handover

We coordinate final inspections, complete punch list items, and walk the project with you before handoff. We don’t rush the finish—details matter.

What you get: A final walkthrough, completed punch list, and a home you can feel confident about.

How You’ll Stay Informed

Weekly Updates + Clear Milestones

Most construction stress comes from not knowing what’s happening. Our communication is built around simple milestones so you always know what’s next, what decisions are needed, and what’s been completed.

What you can expect:

  • Weekly progress update (what was completed, what’s next, what we need from you).

  • Milestone walkthroughs (foundation, framing, rough‑ins, drywall, finishes, final).

  • Fast answers (one point of contact; no getting bounced around).

  • Clear decision deadlines (so selections don’t delay the schedule).

Budget & Change Orders (No Surprises)

Scope Clarity = Cost Control

We protect your budget by defining scope clearly and documenting changes the right way. If you want to change something mid‑project or if we uncover an unforeseen condition—we price it, explain the schedule impact, and get written approval before proceeding.

Our change‑order standard:

  • All changes are written, priced, and approved before work begins.

  • Every change order includes: what’s changing, cost impact, and timeline impact.

  • You choose: approve, adjust, or decline—no pressure.

Allowances made simple:

  • If your project includes allowances (tile, fixtures, cabinets), we help you select options that fit your budget and timeline.

  • If you choose upgrades, you’ll see the cost difference clearly before committing.

Typical Timelines (Realistic Ranges)

How Long Do Projects Take?

Every home is different, but you deserve honest timelines you can plan around. The ranges below reflect typical construction time, and they can shift based on permits, inspections, product lead times (especially cabinetry), and how quickly selections are finalized.

Typical construction-only ranges

Kitchen Remodel

~10–14 weeks

A typical kitchen remodel includes demolition, rough plumbing/electrical updates, cabinetry installation, countertops, flooring, tile/backsplash, lighting, paint, and final punch list. Many kitchens land in the 10–16 week range depending on scope and lead times, with cabinets often being the biggest schedule driver.

Common factors that extend the timeline:

  • Layout changes (moving plumbing, gas, or electrical)

  • Custom cabinets (longer lead times)

  • Structural changes (removing walls, new beams, new windows/doors)

  • Special-order appliances or countertops

Bathroom Remodel

~8–14 weeks

Bathrooms move fast when the layout stays the same, but timelines expand when plumbing moves, waterproofing is extensive, or finishes are highly customized. Many bathroom remodels fall in the 6–12 week range overall, and more complex projects can push longer.

Common factors that extend the timeline:

  • Relocating plumbing fixtures (shower/toilet/vanity)

  • Custom tile work or full-height waterproofing systems

  • Hidden damage (rot, mold, old plumbing)

  • Permit/inspection requirements for major mechanical changes

One‑Room Addition

~16–24 weeks

A one-room addition typically includes foundation work, framing, roofing, exterior finishes, rough mechanicals, insulation/drywall, interior finishes, and final inspection. The biggest schedule variables are inspections, weather exposure during framing, and how quickly the project can be “dried-in” to protect interior work.

Common factors that extend the timeline:

  • Site access (tight lots, hillside properties)

  • Structural tie‑ins to the existing home

  • Utility upgrades (panel upgrade, sewer tie‑ins)

  • Exterior finish matching (stucco/roofing/material availability)

Whole‑Home Renovation

~6-12 months

Whole-home renovations vary widely, but a true “major renovation” often lands in the 6–12 month range, especially when multiple rooms, systems, and layout changes are involved. This range matches common guidance for gut-to-studs or multi-area remodels.

Common factors that extend the timeline:

  • Scope creep (adding rooms or upgrades midstream)

  • Older home conditions (knob-and-tube, galvanized plumbing, foundation issues)

  • Engineering + permit revisions

  • Custom selections across multiple rooms (tile, cabinets, flooring, windows)

New Construction

~12–24 months

New homes include site work, foundation, framing, mechanical systems, insulation/drywall, finishes, landscaping, and final approvals. The range depends heavily on size, complexity, site conditions, and the permitting and inspection cadence.

Common factors that extend the timeline:

  • Hillside or complex grading requirements

  • Long-lead items (windows, custom doors, specialty finishes)

  • Design complexity (custom details, high-end systems)

  • Weather delays and inspection scheduling
